Our company is a small family business run by a second generation wood craftsmen. I was born and raised in Europe and recieved my education from the Bulgarian National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts. After I received a strong background in the history and traditions of arts from both Europe and North America, I decided to continue the family skills in woodworking. I bring the techniques of the old craftsmen, which were passed on to me by my father, their artistry, based on my education, touch and the knowledge of the Old World in my practice. I love all the pieces I have worked on and try to leave a touch of myself in all of them. I pay special attention to every small detail in my work. My friend Greg has a favourite saying: “details, details…,” and that is all that matters.
In my work I choose the best technique to apply depending on the piece I work with. I use a broad spectrum of skills depending on the age and use of the object. In my shop I have received pieces with different problems not always visible to the owner. It is easy to spot a break in the wood or a wobling joint. But sometimes small signs like a crack in the veneer or the finish reveal much bigger problems with the structure of the object. Again, “details, details…”
Other problems I have faced were caused by previous repairs and use of materials or techniques that are incompatible with the piece. Those are sometimes hard to remove and repair and such repairs require a long and tedious process. This is hard to explain it to the clients.
Of course, not all small damages are so serious. The contemporary touch-up techiniques do the job just fine most of the time. However, no matter if I am working with an antique or modern day piece, all of the techniques I use lead to beautiful final results.
